They are magnificently staggering wrong on average about everything. We could go point by point and I could find polls for every single one because I'm basing my understanding of their position by reading their own words and polls by reputable sources like pew and Gallup.

The right Wing collectively has departed so entirely from reality that educated con artists must carefully contort their words to avoid their insanities and prejudice whilst fools spout forth with abandon uncaring.

A lot of the stuff you mentioned isn't really AI (the risk of job loss from which I agree is real), but just everyday stuff that humanity has shrugged off since the dawn of time.

It can be very exhausting to receive a lot of PRs. especially when they're LLMs. We have to read what people don't often even read themselves. They're often very wordy. Then it hurts all the more when it's wrong.

I've had negative responses to small, isolated submissions that I've heavily QA'd and semi-positive responses to longer ones. I think it has less to do with the "realpolitik" of the code itself and more to do with the maintainer's viewpoints about whether AI as a whole is a positive or negative thing.

I tend to respond quite well to AI-authored or assisted PRs to my project, but to be fair we maybe only get 3-5 PRs in a good month.

I tend to value person-to-person interaction. I've received a lot of purely automated responses, which shows low value to me as a person, and ultimately the project. I'm not disagreeing that code matters, but we're losing person-to-person discourse and the community that comes with it.

Thinking it through a little bit is probably coming from having bounties on a few issues that might be contributing to my negative experience.

There's absolutely a real, qualitative difference between contact from a real human being who respects everyone's time and has done actual research, and someone who is just playing the numbers game and blasting as many people as they can (regardless of how "warm" the leads are).

It's a bit of a spectrum, but if someone has taken the time to handwrite and research an email or call, I'll at least try to give them the courtesy of a response.

I've had the opposite experience giving claude code SSH/ADB access to my devices. Not sure if it's the model itself or the harness, but I haven't had to manually do a sysadmin task in months.

I think GPT-5.6 Sol is giving Claude some genuine competition right now. I wouldn't say it beats it, but it's half the price and can solve most of the same problems.

It's funny you say that, I do see where you're coming from.

I don't personally see cost as an issue, since I'm using it for a small business with a subsidised consumer subscription (subscription cost is negligible compared to efficiency returns from the last 6 months), but I have found myself going to GPT over Claude for specific niche tasks - namely visual web design and SVG graphics. It does a good job of more things than just pelicans - its N64 controllers are good too!

Usually I will ask the LLM to commit only the work it just did, in case the worktree is dirty. It also tends to write actual in-depth commit messages too.

I think literally anyone would stop reading these randomly long long bash commands at all after prompting Claude to do some basic sysadmin task and getting 15 of them in a row.

These models generate the most unreadable bash commands I've ever seen. Utilising every single option available and piping the result through multiple layers of regex and junk.

The mental load of having to actually review these commands beyond the most surface level glance is too much.

Claude code actually has a hook to let you install a script to review these bash commands for you. You can get pretty with a few simple and conservative rules, as long as you teach it how to take apart piped commands into their parts (to judge them).

For installation, maybe. sometimes.

(The biggest issue I'm aware of is that if you have an old version of the app indexed anywhere on your root drive - for example in ~/qa/app-v1.02-DO-NOT-DELETE - it will literally stomp over that instead of installing the app to /Applications, even if the developer manually specified the install location as /Applications in the manifest.)

But for uninstallation, not a chance. There's no Mac equivalent to Add or Remove Programs on Windows - once you install a PKG good luck uninstalling it.
