This is everything and much more than i wanted from a VR system, it feels like its designed exactly for me. Also tbh i thought after the steam machine price shock i got that this will be like 200 more.

1. It is SteamOS with desktop mode, the SteamDeck made me really miss that feature on any newer console i use like my ps5 or switch 2. Like even if we just limit it to games, playing games like The Binding of Isaac or Minecraft unmodded is a pain for me. Even just using websites for Streaming Services that dont have their app on every system ever, PS5 and Switch 2 dont even have webbrowsers you can just access, I think you have to edit DNS settings to make it think you have to sign up for a free wifi in the browser IIRC.

2. Wireless Streaming without the (Quest 3S) downsides of Wireless Streaming. I have a 6ghz router in my room, connected to my Laptop with an ethernet cable and tried the streaming on a quest 3S. I dont want todo that ever again, it was so inconsistent. It felt like the beatsaber song and gameplay speed up and slowed down like 1-5% in waves to catch up with the stream. Also sometimes my right eye turned into a chess grid of black pixels but i would assume that was more of a Linux Quirk. Also since i use a Laptop i dont want any wires from my headset to the Laptop, I dont want to pull my laptop and possibly more off my desk in the middle of a game. Also for movement games like beatsaber i find cables really annoying when you want to quickly accelerate.

3. Both the Windows mixed reality Headset and Quest 3S had TERRIBLE software. To continue using the WMR i had to reinstall windows like once every 1-2 months. Which just ended up with me stopping to play VR (Like why would i reinstall my PC like 6-12 times a year just to play those 3-4 games. From what i know from the steamdeck, the frame will be so so much better in this regard. On the Quest i wouldnt even have my steam library without connecting to a PC.

4. An ARM linux device that doesnt contain 10-15 year old somewhat mid phone hardware. Like i had been thinking about getting a macbook for asahi linux for a long time now just because it seemed like the best in that regard and i really really wanted a finished, high performance ARM device. And if i can run that many steam games on my non actively cooled phone already without the frame even being out (Since both use the FEX layer) (which has the same chip as the frame) I feel like i will really enjoy it for local Minecraft VR and Beatsaber and probably more.

5. The controllers. LTT complained about the "Default Xbox layout" because reaching all buttons is a bit hard, but for me, both the meta quest 3S and Samsung odyssey + controllers had a severe lack of buttons to bind game actions to. Also i like bigger controllers anyway, I like the Steam controller, I like the Wii u Gamepad, I like the steamdeck and I even like the OG xbox controller. To me those werent big clunky controllers, they were (or are) the most comfortable controllers i have used so far.

The only 2 things im eagerly waiting for more Info on is the "Much better comfort" i have been hearing about and the ability to install .APK files.

Either way im already sold on this thing and believe i will LOVE it for years and years to come.

It has been a constant good source for TitleIDs (for the steam compat folder when modding on linux), for Steam frame Hopium (when they updated FEX or Lepton or the Stick driver again) and looking at the patch history of games.

I got a year of free Perplexity Pro with my Revolut sub. At first I really, really liked it. It felt faster, better, and smarter than (free) ChatGPT. But instead of getting better (or at worst staying at the same level), it seems like it gets worse and worse instead.

For a few months now I have it that it randomly switches to another language for like 1–2 words (most often Japanese) mid sentence. It feels like it got worse at referencing earlier parts of the same convo. For example, I asked it to compare a 9‑year‑old flagship phone chip to the newest model of the smartwatch the same company produces. I used the short version of the phone name (left away the company name since I thought the relation would be obvious enough).

It then asked what I meant by the short version, if I meant the watch of a competitor, if I meant some random vacuum robot, or if I meant something entirely different.

I then said the full phone name and it gave me back a summarization of “Is Phone Name still usable as a daily driver in 2026?” Something I never asked.

Same experience here. I think I started using Perplexity for researching stuff before ChatGPT had search and particularly before I had access to Pro mode. Then I experienced the very same thing as you, the Perplexity experience got faster, but also quality degraded a lot, until eventually ChatGPT + search tool + Pro just completely overtook it. Some queries might take 20-30 minutes to fully complete, but then the results are also really good and extensive.

I still remember when my bank wanted me to run Android 9 instead of my Android 15 rom (without root) on my Samsung S8 because "muh security!!"

Funnily enough, the only way to hide those detections was to Root my phone... And i still remember when i had an appointment there, they wanted to see something in my Bank app, i opened it (and i assume it had an update since i then last used it) and a big "THIS DEVICE IS NOT SUPPORTED. ROOT IS NOT SUPPORTED" poped up

But was as simple as readding the bank app to my root hiders.

Still salty about my mixed reality experience.

Had to basically reinstall my PC every 3 months (if i used vr in those times, which i stopped after a few reinstalls) because the mixed reality app somehow broke itself again with no amount of updates/fixing/reinstalling or terminal work fixing it. I tried, i tried alot but all the hours were just wasted since only a clean install worked, for about 2-3 months until it just decides it doesnt want to open again.

The windows mixed reality portal has then made me stop playing vr completly about 5-6 years ago because i couldnt justify reinstalling everything every few months for a few hours of beatsaber and then like 3-4 years ago i FULLY switched to linux so now its just a paperweight anyway (i think they removed the support in modern windows anyway iirc)

Basically just waiting for the steam frame each and every day currently

A Minecraft Mod that outputs the Stats of the players onto a website (I made it use APIs, so an app or CLI tool would be easy to create later on).

This is my first Minecraft Mod and the first project i made that interacts with the network, has logins/accounts and does APIs.

I am really not good and thus the UI (far worse on mobile) and especially the Code is bad, but i would have never expected to get it working at all, much less this functional. But i am still far from done, i still want to improve the overall code quality, add the inventory and ender chest, achievements (maybe even custom ones so vanilla clients can earn and view them without having to change anything locally. IDK yet) and more.

While this is by far not as cool as the other stuff on here i still would like to show it off and gather some first feedback. This is my first Java project that goes above the Standard stuff in school like scanners/calculators and so I have probably done obvious beginner mistakes.

I just dont see how Remove-Item is superior to rm and thats just the first example that came to mind (Atleast there are aliases for most stuff afaik so i guess its not AS bad).

I also just googled and there seem to be 3-4 different commands (not including the aliases) that do EXACTLY the same thing, atleast the Microsoft article used 1:1 the same description for all of them.

I'm not sure what argument you are trying to make with picking out a single command and vaguely asserting doubt.

It's about having a high degree of systematization and standardization and detailed guidelines around command structure and behaviour. The same with parameter naming and handling. About actually being able to work with typed data at input/output/pipes instead of only raw bytes, with all the benefits that entails (and a "standard library" of cmdlets/modules liberally making use of that). And so on. Having the whole .NET runtime available as a first-class citizen if needed is a nice bonus as well.

Don't mistake lack of familiarity for obtuseness.

rm only removes files and directories right? Remove-Item can be used for any powershell provider, such as environment variables, active directory, certificates, and registry. And of course you can implement your own providers that utilize *-item cmdlets. I don't know that i'd call either superior, or that i'd even say that they're equivalent. rm is a utility for removing files, remove-item is a little more than that.
