It is shit compared to what it could have been. It is diverse in language (which is a negative), food (yet mostly boring) yet common in one thing: regulate to suffocate. Kill (most) innovation. Live in borrowed times. Spend money that we don't have. Fuck future generations even more. Then wonder why far right is flapping their wings.
When society becomes a free-for-all of people with haves making it impossible for the people with have little to have anything at all, it begins to collapse. People have no incentive to treat anyone else with dignity and respect. They no longer take care of one another.
Competition does not have to mean kill or be killed. We can still be decent, helpful, charitable while competing.
You are just bullshitting without any understanding of "people who have little". I'm one of those who came from "have little". As a consequence, almost everyone I knew growing up, were also "have little/have nothing" people. Among 100s of people in my super extended family (tree), among 100 of my "have little" classmates from school, it was always clear from early age who will "succeed." The ones who had grit, dedication, focus, and a shine in their eyes.
The ones who complained about wealth and society, are still in the have little group. The ones who didn't care, heads down worked hard, are living in luxury.
Taking care of one another is mostly a privilege afforded in society with wealth that leads to high trust situation. I grew up in a place without it; so I know how valuable (and desirable) "taking care of one another" is.
Current western generation (esp far left) has no idea how good they have it and are actively destroying wealth that will lead them to the chaos they have no idea about.
I don't want that "way down" just like you. But unlike you, I don't believe in fairy tales. Reality is capitalism works, wealth creation works, we all end up in better places (not equal...but overall better). Much better than road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Perhaps I misread the parent comment, but the emphasis on that clause seemed to be on the fresh produce, not the lower carbon emissions. I don’t know how swapping out for 100% electric improves people’s access to fresh produce is my point
Diesel electric are not at all the same as an electric train network.
Electric trains have a very interesting property, as they work as a grid as both producers, feeding back when they are breaking.
You made a second point, that most trains are already "diesel electric", I am pointing out, that the function is very different from an electric train, and much less friendly(and less efficient) to the environment.
This is what you get when you hire a TV personality who cares more about soldiers looking masculine (and white) than anything else and launch an illegal war for no reason other than "those guys make me angry."
We are governed by people who think the very idea of expertise is dumb. A system of pure id and grievance. Like children playing war in the bath tub.
Why wouldn't it be feasible for Apple, with an unlimited war chest, to go after Asahi?
I am not saying they will, but it is certainly possible for them.
Because if it's feasible for any company with a war chest to start a court case about a competitor maybe having a matching line of code to theirs via an LLM, then basically every single company with a warchest would be at war with eachother, because they're all using LLMs.
Business and code production would grind to a halt whilst basically every big tech company shares it's entire codebase with every other tech company for discovery. It's basically MAD.
And if it was feasible, given we've had a couple of years of all the big tech companies heavily using LLMs, there should be some notable court cases by now, surely?
This may sound stupid to a predominantly GNU/Linux audience, but as a FreeBSD user(and Linux user!), when a daemon is not available for FreeBSD, it's a very bad sign.

FWIW I'm the founder of both the Snikket and Prosody projects. If you're a FreeBSD user, or even an experienced hands-on Linux sysadmin, I'd probably recommend going with Prosody, unless docker is your thing.
Snikket aimed to fill the gap for people who wanted an "out of the box" XMPP distribution kind of thing, and it's good at that. But shipping a bunch of software components with opinionated configurations doesn't really mesh well with distribution-level package management, and only really works with a container kind of ecosystem.
Both routes exist and are equally viable. Prosody has ports available for all the popular BSDs, and installing it should be a breeze. Just be prepared to then also set up a TURN server if you want calls, and potentially some web server stuff to if you want some of those features. After installing Prosody you can run 'prosodyctl check features' and it will tell you if you're missing any of the common stuff people want in a modern messaging app.
