How much money did they waste in police and court resources over a swing obviously in disrepair if it broke so easily? How much resources/money did they waste having someone create invoices for numerous children/families? How much resources/money did they waste on harassing/tormenting children and their families instead of just fixing the damn thing?
So nice to see such enormous time and resources being spent on catching actual criminals
an LLM does not understand ethics, it uses math to get the next best word based on what it was trained on. Using it's training to get the best answer is not an ethical problem. The ethics are entirely with what the people training it choose to train it on and also entirely with the people using/telling it what to do
What we have now is intelligent autocomplete, not artificial intelligence. People training/using this tool are the ones to be held accountable
I don't get your point. We can train the model with the aim that it understands ethics. Problem solved if this works; back to the drawing board if it doesn't (note that the model should generalize here, as you'd expect from a human; this is probably the hard part for an AI when it comes to ethics).
Is this about the word "understand"? We're past that discussion ...
It wont be adopted because we unconciously need to avoid responsibility of showing up as responsible human beings. Hence western civilization will crash and burn unless we start rethinking the way we operate.
you are not understanding, models do not understand anything, we are not passed that yet. this is not artificial intelligence, this is intelligent autocomplete.
training means creating mathematical relationships to words. using that training is looking up mathematical relationships. There is no actual thinking involved in any way. There is no such concept as ethics in mathematical relationships.
Most people now approach AI using the idea of "if it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, etc. then it _is_ a duck". Replace duck by intelligent, or ethical, etc. and rephrase accordingly.
this whole idea that AI is intelligent really reminds me of flat earthers. Stupid people think stupid things while social media algorithms drive this stupidity, and people come to believe things that are insane.
RustDesk works so much better and easier than vnc and other vendored solutions. No need to open ports, no need for vpn, it just works, no account BS, no vendor lock in BS.
I have used RustDesk for years, also run my own lookup/relay server so I do not need to rely on the public lookup server
While everything else gets enshitified RustDesk just keeps getting better
No, but it's the obvious starting point. You can then put additional laws on top banning fingerprinting out of band (if you care about window dressing), fund development of anti-fingerprinting technologies, fund Tor, run exit nodes in a transparent and publicly auditable fashion, etc.
It's not hard to make privacy work when you are the government rather than working against a hostile one.
We have those laws. You need consent regardless of how you get the data. That’s they say “we value your data” (a phrase you can read in two ways) and ask if 1368 partners can have it for various uses.
I still handle email for multiple small businesses (for over 20 years) and recently switched from the mailscanner+spamassasin to rspamd and the scanning is so much better/easier now
my backend is still dovecot+postfix, still works beautifully. I am able to run rspamd+dovecot proxy on a small vps and the storage is handled by a backend office server with dovecot. If VPS has an issue can spinup another easily/anywhere and backend is also virtualized (libvirt) so easily restored (with multiple backups in multiple places)
biggest thing to worry about with deliverability is ensuring your SPF and DKIM (opendkim) are correct, which is not too difficult and rspamd is able to handle the dkim signing/verification which is nice
Yup rspamd being able to do the DKIM signing was what made me move from spamassassian+opendkim to just this single solution. The web GUI and its speed were just really nice extras it brought with it. It's one of my favourite pieces of open source software.
I was handed a project someone vibe coded with Claude and it took me hours just to get it running to discover it was missing the entire interface and all the queries were for sqlite while the DB to setup for it was mysql. The patch diff file between what claude produced and the functional version I got working was over 11k lines
I'm the OP and this is the exact point of the post. Whoever handed you that project did not have Claude code running it end to end in a production-like environment.
Whether you like the vibe coded app or not, you would have had fewer errors if Claude had been testing it end to end while vibe coding.
definitely better when guided properly. Its like the old art of searching, if you gave it a good search query it would find what you were looking for. Same goes for AI now, how you prompt it makes all the difference
funny enough with my diff and directions even claude recognized how much a problem it created and what it would take to fix it
I got significantly more work accomplished when I worked remotely. There was tons of work I could not do from the office as people needed the systems I need to work on and could only be done out of hours/remotely.
When in the office I got a lot of people complaining/pissed I was leaving early because I got there an hour or more before everyone so I could get more work done/do the work on systems they needed. The only thing I got while in the office was constant interruptions for things a junior could have handled. Meetings was a bad word, never allowed, so there was really no reason for me to be there constantly (I could have done most of my job remotely and gone into the office once or twice a week)
I hired a junior I was eager to mentor/train to replace me, they proceeded to throw endless things I did at them expecting them to fill the multiple hats I was filling (to the point they pushed them to work on very dangerous equipment and got themselves hurt)
Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't
I absolutely loved the work I did. I GTFO of that misery that was only miserable/got me crucified due to the stupid shit people made up in their head instead of the actual work I did
> So it's not like I have nothing to share after 30 years of experience in the industry, I just have nobody to share it with.
seriously. it kills me to have so much knowledge and expertise that few people appear to care about if not downright hate me for wanting to pass it on to others as it appears institutional knowledge does not have any value these days
I did something similar but made the batteries and solar priority, solar charges battery and wall power only used to top off as needed, otherwise always running on batteries
The Drok DC-DC did not work for my minipc that needed 19V/130W supply (would cut off with heavy draw), but the JacobsParts LTC3780 130W has been running my minipc's for almost a year now, gaming minipc, server minipc and networking
before that the solar panels barely charged the solix unit, but now my batteries fully charge and I still sometimes have left over solar I feed into the solix
So nice to see such enormous time and resources being spent on catching actual criminals
