Didn’t that id verification service that just had the massive breach also say similar about data retention? Doesn’t matter if they delete if the data is being intercepted somewhere along the line.
Long time FreeBSD user on and off, currently running 16-CURRENT on my desktop for GPU support. But fwget is a new one on me. I’m gonna try it later and see what it does for me.
FreeBSD is really hard to keep up with the changes - i don’t know of a good source to keep up with what is considered the right way to do things anymore. Anyone know a good source? Linux is much better for blogs.
FreeBSD, as an OS, does not change that much. It's not hard to keep up. That's why it's such a solid OS. The main web site lists any changes or additions with each release.

The command I referenced is not, I guess 16 only. Other examples are the service command just appearing, etcupdate being preferred to mergemaster, whatever the current preferred flavour of port upgrade tool is (poudrire, portmaster, portupgrade, something else(?)).
I also have no idea what is a sane way to do things that Linux does as systemd user services like pipewire, xdg-sessions if I want to share my screen.
Yeah pkg is fine if you’re using prebuilt packages. I don’t think it builds ports with custom configs for you from /usr/ports. Or maybe it does now and I missed that too.
I much prefer sway as my desktop, but each to their own.
-current is ok with the caveat that you have to be pretty engaged with the development process, ideally having developers employed (or be one yourself)

Desktop is a moving target and modern hardware usually requires -current, but I wouldn’t call it “production”

Wait, if it was only firstname.lastname.name, how was he able to register firstnamelastname.name? Does it let you register 2nd level domains if you get there before someone else registers a 3rd level domain that uses the 2nd level domain that you want to register?
The status quo is that the registry proactively reserves a large list of 2LDs corresponding to attested personal names and surnames, making them unavailable for registration. One can register 3LDs underneath these. It will also reserve a 2LD reactively if someone wants to register a 3LD underneath it. Or, if a 2LD is not on the reserved list, someone can register it outright.
As far as I know the list of reserved 2LDs is not available, but you can query individual names via whois to see if they are reserved or not.
I don't know the history of when the offerings were available, but I initially bought my-first-name.my-rare-last-name.name, and fortunately nobody else bought another-name.my-rare-last-name.name, and I was able to let mine lapse then buy my-rare-last-name.name.
I mean, at what point do we say that wilfully refusing to absorb relevant information and then knowingly and willingly making a decision based on that lack of information is, indeed, their will?
I think this ignores the fact that there are very converted efforts to use well-researched methods to manipulate and mislead people at the ballotbox in favor of the vested interests.
The same interests also conspire to keep people preoccupied with basic needs and distractions that leave them with little time to properly research issues.
They used to be. Now everything’s a website or a website inside a chrome engine pretending to not be a website and is completely hostile to UI conventions like keyboard navigation.
