- wired: Philips SHP9500; open-back, so not an "office" model. The single-sided 3.5mm jack is convenient and lets you plug in a 3rd party boom mic. I know these are priced way below any audiophile-grade stuff but the non-EQd frequency response rivals or is sometimes outright better than many "audiophile" specimens (looking at you, Sennheiser HD800 and your 6kHz ringing). Also exceptionally comfortable - but that's subjective, of course - and lightweight.
- wireless: I have a pair of Airpods Max and these are somewhat interesting (but nothing exceptional wrt audio quality). These are lagging behind AirPods feature-wise but the transparency mode is very clear and convenient, so I find them safe enough for walking outside. The ANC is also good.
Maybe? Transformers and neural networks in general can do lots of interesting things for sure. But an image with the default ChatGPT aesthetic mindlessly produced by a generic prompt isn't one of them.
I'm guilty of dismissing useful messages sometimes, so I'm running a program, RetroClip for macOS, that records the last 30/60 seconds of screen capture into a ring buffer in RAM (with compression, but the CPU/GPU/power usage seems to be almost negligible). It writes out a file when you press a hotkey. Very helpful in these "wait, wtf did just happen" situations.
QT and GTK are as native (and solid, I guess) as it gets, since there's no "default" UI toolkit that's shipped along with the kernel, unlike e.g. Windows or macOS. Speaking of Windows, why do they even ship browser-UI apps as a part of the OS? Do they find native Windows UI development too hard or feature-limited even with LLM assistance?
Because Microsoft screwed up their native UI story. They are slowly starting to go native again with WinUI3, but Microsoft went through a rough period with UI frameworks, I mean how many do they have now all still "supported"? WinForms, WPF, MFC, WinUI, MAUI, etc.?
Yeah, I've lost track years ago. Still, if there is a "modern" one (WinUI 3, I guess), it should be possible to build a nice weather app in it. Anyway, I've just realized they ship a HTML-based UI in order to be able to serve HTML/JS-based ads through it.
Headsets (including Bluetooth ones) were already a thing back then, so they'd have to go back another couple of decades, I guess. Using the speakerphone mode in public would attract some looks though.
Yes but the headsets back then were these (relatively) huge ugly things dangling off your ear that an ex colleague amusingly called “roaches”. You could tell something was there if they walked by within a few feet of you.
The AirPods of today are pretty much invisible which is why it’s genuinely impossible to tell even with a close look who they’re talking to, especially when they stare at ME because I’m staring at them trying to figure out if they’re talking to me!
I've asked my bank's support agent about an issue with an app, it also didn't stumble producing a thorough and convincing answer. Entirely wrong, though. Using an LLM to reverse engineer the app turned out to be a much more productive approach.
I very much appreciate it when people use wired headphones with a decent mic for calls. Speech clarity is just so much better even with Earpods compared to tws earplugs.
