Clearly the NOTAMs aren't doing the job, as this isn't the only instance of issues. It's just the only instance of a crash with fatalities.

So they should turn off the GPS interference whenever they're asked to do so by ATC. Which they did in this case. The timeline is something like , NOTAM issued, flight takes off, flight has issues, ATC asked the military to turn off the interference, the military complies, the flight says they're good now and the interference can continue, ATC informes the military that they can continue, they do, and then the flight crashes. I don't see how the military carries any fault here.

NOTAMs have so many issues it's not even funny. There's so many of them and 9/10 of them are irrelevant for one.

NOTAM is itself a broken system responsible for many mishaps.

I'm not especially anti-LLM but emergency messages seems like a terrible use case. If you're typing out a detailed emergency message then I would think you would need all of your details to be sent or you could simply type a shorter message.

Julian date is sometimes used to synchronize timing for encrypted radio systems. My understanding is that early radio systems adapted it because it was used by astronomers. Astronomers used it because it didn't skip any days which would cause issues tracking long term astronomical cycles.

Julian date works exactly like Unix epoch, but instead of starting in junary 1 1970 it starts something like 2500 years ago.

Super easy for astronomy as you don't need to handle timezones and other junk

I deal with those radio systems occasionally and I've always wanted to find or modify a digital watch to display the Julian date. It feels like that would be such a simple firmware change to something like a g-shock.

A modern John Deere tractor with a robust right-to-repair would still be a pain to do maintenance on. A big part of the reason people want old tractors is because they don't have these additional computer controlled systems which break and require time and effort to fix.
