The actual moat is the same as in web services - data and user base.
Why is Google a monopoly? Do they have so advanced software that no one can outperform? I doubt it. What they have is a giant user base that generate loads of real-time data, which make Google services more accurate.
So how AI company can build a moat? Exactly the same way: by making a giant user base produce loads of real time data.
Just imagine a service that will generate answers not only based on data they were trained on, but on all data from all user conversations. Imagine being at a concert, looking for a certain type of beer and instantly receiving an answer from an AI assistant about that only because some other guy in a crowd looking for exactly the same thing said to his agent "ah, here they are!".
It is not happening just yet because of making it secure and private is not yet solved, but it's just a matter of time I think.
The job of a programmer isn't to write code, but to automate things. Code itself doesn't have any value unless it solves some real problem not related to coding.
So if the work of a programmer can be automated then this means that any work can be automated. So no, it's not about software engineering only.
i think most things can be automated, but not everything
i think AI will just replace jobs with new jobs, and humans will continue with open-ended goal setting, and probably jobs where being human is necessary: responsibility and authenticity, so judges, politics, leaders, chefs, etc.
so in a way, the above commenter was correct, anything a programmer can automate, AI can do
Reminds me of crypto. A lotta tokens. A lotta gambling. Very little supplanting of crypto from fiat. Very few use-cases that revolutionize society, etc.
Just attach OpenRouter to your coding agent tool and try yourself. All relevant open weight models are there. Every person have different needs and expectations
Might depend on used language. From my experience Claude Sonnet indeed never make any syntax mistakes in JS/TS/C#, but these are popular language with lots of training data.
To be more specific: "us" in this sentence means the creators of dumb, shallow, and derivative movies.
The cognitive error here is that people see generated video and are overwhelmed by how it looks good, but they don't know how much it differs from an original vision. Vision that human prompting it had in mind while creating it. And I'm sure this differs a lot. Whoever tried to generate video using generative models knows that what you get is basically random. But movies never had been about showing random things.
There is no way the movie industry collapses. But it will certainly transform more into computer work.
it is over, "it" bieng a dominant place in in popular media reserved for hollywood, done, non viable model now, competition is fierce for views, and no one is waiting to be discovered.
attention spans are too short, and billions are playing bit parts in games and creating videos.AI is blurring everything, and closeing off entry level spots to test new talent, meat aint cheap or fast enough, no matter how hard you push.
The comming space hotels, mars and moon missions will take the place of movie and tv,real live performance will maintain it's draw, AI slop for the dull.
So we know there are types and interfaces. One support declaration merging, one does not. Both can extend others, but in different ways. But why? Why there are two of them? When should I use them? Is one better than the other?
Determining the motivation for design decisions is outside the scope of what any external party can and/or should do. The most the author could do is echo what's in the docs (if present), or give their own guess on why things are the way they are.
But you still can use Thunderbird for that. I recommend it no matter what mail provider is used. Web interfaces are so heavy nowadays, compared to that, Thunderbird feels so fast.
yes, so I can search my emails solely on my laptop if I install proton bridge and synchronize 50GB of emails. And in case you have ever tried to search 50GB of data with thunderbird, it’s slow.
I tried synchronising the data directly in the browser, without any email client and the search is mediocre and slow.
This is not a great experience for search.
But again, it’s not a critique of Proton, it’s just how it is with E2EE. At least it demonstrate they are really doing E2EE.
I still hope some time in the future homomorphic encryption will help, but I think we are at least a decade away from that.
Absolutely not. Privacy risk depends on how well protected is the weakest point in your network. So if one of the participants' device is compromised then the entire discussion is compromised too.
On closed, proprietary platform you just cut off the weakest point from access to the data when you suspect it is not protected enough, as data it lies on a single server. On mailing list you can't do anything, because data lies on somebody's else's server
I think it might be the same as with programmers. It might look like AI Agents can do all the programming, but when you actually try to use it do do things it quickly turns out to be not so much reliable.
