I think people are giving up on apple too easily. They've had one really bad round (admittedly I'm ignoring the lets solder everything to the motherboard phase) but there is still September. I'm forcing my 2011 mbp to live at least until then so that I can then reassess my hardware.

Thats not to say I haven't been researching other options in the meantime. The good thing about all of this is that the people (myself included) who have never even considered leaving are getting a chance to see what else is available in the market and make a more educated decision to stay/go.
